Carrie Rainwater, Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing online therapy for adults throughout Massachusetts.

Hi, I'm Carrie Rainwater.

I've been a therapist for over 12 years, and throughout my career I've had the privilege of working with people at many different stages of recovery. Recovery is hard work, and I've seen firsthand the incredible courage, resilience, and dedication it takes to create meaningful change.

My passion for this work comes from both professional experience and personal understanding of the ways substance use can impact individuals, families, and communities. While substance use is often surrounded by stigma, it touches nearly everyone's life in some way. Throughout my work and my personal life, I've seen both the pain it can cause and the remarkable healing that recovery can make possible.

Over the years, I've become especially interested in the challenges that can emerge after sobriety is established. Many people discover that once the work of getting sober becomes more stable, deeper questions begin to surface about identity, relationships, purpose, self-worth, and healing. Supporting clients through this stage of recovery has become a meaningful focus of my work.

I earned my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University and have worked with diverse populations throughout my career, including LGBTQ+ individuals and communities. My experience includes substance use, relapse prevention, anxiety, depression, trauma, identity development, and navigating the pressures and expectations society places on us.

I also work from a feminist ecological perspective, which means I believe our experiences are shaped not only by our individual choices and circumstances, but also by our relationships, communities, cultures, and larger social systems. Understanding those influences can be an important part of healing and growth.

Above all, I believe therapy works best when it is grounded in genuine human connection. My goal is to create a space where you feel respected, supported, and empowered to continue building the life you want for yourself.

Outside of work, you can usually find me spending time with my wife and our dog, rewatching Star Trek for the hundredth time, getting lost in a good sci-fi novel, or cheering on just about any women's sports team.
